San Luis Obispo, the Cubesat workshop. I totally love the place. Peter and I rode here in an open cab Mustang from Los Angeles.
Meeting old friends, meeting Dr. Yu for the first time since September. Here, in company of the greatest, the idea of a test satellite is born. The asteroid mission needs a little sister. With all these new technologies, why not test out the most critical in a “controlled” environment, LEO.
The idea is to build a cheap, 3U space craft to test orbital transfer, formation flying, the deep space X-band transponder and optical positioning. And the best part – it fits well within my budget. No need to chase that non-existing money.
The idea assumes that we can find a team willing to spend time building the space craft without payment other than the joy of flying in space.
The mission will use EP to change orbit to a space debris. Then use on board sensors to formation fly with the debris within 20 meters and take its picture. During the mission we will test the X-band transponder.
Now we just need to find the team supporting this mission.
